“Good beer and good music go well together. You know like, peanut butter and jelly, snowy days and hot cocoa, Beavis and Butthead…
This time of year we try to mix up our playlist at the brewery with some vinyl. Some new, some old, and even some we’ve collected from bands that have played right here in the Taproom. I have so many favorites depending on my mood, but if I had to pick just one that goes best with my favorite beer, I guess I’d pick Roger Miller’s album, Dang Me. This album was recorded in Nashville in 1964.
The title track, “Dang Me” was Miller’s first #1 hit and won a Grammy despite only taking 4 minutes to write in a hotel room according to Roger. Is the album profound and full of deep, inspirational songs? No. But it is clever, witty, funny and of course relatable (especially while enjoying a beer). In “Dang Me” he sings:
Just sittin’ around drinkin’ with the rest of the guys
Six rounds bought, and I bought five
And I spent the groceries and half the rent
Like fourteen dollars and twenty-seven cents
Dang me, dang me
The album also features Miller’s second #1 hit, which is equally as fun while enjoying paired with a beer, titled: “Chug A Lug.”
We love to mix the tunes up this time of year, so come down and check out our collection. Maybe you’ll find your favorite beer and music pairing. Better yet, bring your favorite vinyl and we’ll throw it on!” – Dave Fields, Senior Brewery Lead
